Trevor Philips — GTA 5 Character Profile and Story Analysis

ProfileCharacters & Storyby GTA Editorial 1 min read

Complete character profile of Trevor Philips from GTA 5 — personality, backstory, voice actor, and role in the story.

Trevor Philips is one of three playable protagonists in Grand Theft Auto V, voiced by Steven Ogg. He is perhaps the most memorable and controversial character in GTA history — a volatile, unpredictable force of nature living in the desert town of Sandy Shores.

Background

Trevor is a former military pilot who was discharged for psychological issues. He was Michael De Santa’s criminal partner in their bank-robbing days until a heist in Ludendorff went wrong in 2004. Believing Michael was dead, Trevor retreated to Blaine County where he built a methamphetamine operation under Trevor Philips Industries (TPI).

Personality

Trevor is GTA at its most unhinged. He’s prone to explosive rage, has virtually no impulse control, and views violence as a first resort. Yet beneath the chaos lies a surprisingly loyal and emotionally vulnerable person. His relationship with Michael — built on betrayal, resentment, and genuine affection — is the emotional core of GTA 5’s story.

Steven Ogg’s Performance

Steven Ogg’s motion-capture and voice performance as Trevor is widely regarded as one of the best in gaming history. Ogg brought physicality, intensity, and unexpected humor to every scene. His career took off after GTA 5, with roles in The Walking Dead, Westworld, and Better Call Saul.
